I quit smoking and drinking that day! That was October of 2004 and by February of 2006 I weighed 165 lbs at 9.5% body fat and I was an official non-smoker and non-drinker, except for the occasional glass of red wine.(Scott Tedro and Ty Kady at Sea Otter) Tedro left, Kady on rightHow did you start this series?I was approached by Corum 101.251.90/0003PN54 Watch some of the top Pro Riders and on of the top promoters in organized mountain bike racing to come to a meeting when I was at Mount Snow, VT competing at the 2008 USAC one-day Mountain Bike National Championships (I won my class in 2007) and was trying to repeat. At the meeting they explained to me that the NMBS (national mountain bike series) was closing its doors due to a lack of funds and they told me that their would not be a professional mountain bike race series in the USA for 2009.
This was a huge shock to me and we started brain storming about what could be done. This series is very important as it establishes the #1 pro plate in North America and it helps the USA develop and qualify Olympic riders. Before I knew it, the meeting turned from discussing ideas, to the pro’s, and organizers asking me to create a new series and Corum 101.251.90/E040PN34 Watch fix it…..if I only knew Why? Why do you care so much?Well a bunch of reasons, but here are a few. First, we invented Mountain Biking in the USA, and I was not about to let the national mountain bike series in the US die if I could do anything about it. Second, we need to be competitive on a world level and if we cannot develop and or qualify Olympic riders for the USA that is a tragedy. Third, it is the right thing to do for the community.
